4 May 2010First of all, if you’ve been to this web site (which you should have) you already know that we are playing at Proud Mary’s in Tuscola, IL this Saturday at 9pm IL.
What you don’t know is that Dick and I along with our gorgeous wives Karen and Cass and our friends Matt and Jamie, just returned from our annual inspirational motorcycle trip to Memphis and Clarksdale, MS. We arrived on Beale Street last Thursday night, ate BBQ and listened to some blues before collapsing after our butt numbing 400 mile journey.
Friday we headed down to Clarksdale, the home of the blues and sight of the crossroads…… THE Crossroads. After visiting the Delta Blues Museum we headed for the juke joints. We checked out a great band at Red’s, Big A & the All Stars, then headed to the Ground Zero Blues Club. There we had the pleasure of sitting in with the All Night Blues Band for several tunes. I don’t know about Dick but I had great fun. (That’s not true. He loved it. But you already knew that!) We seemed to be a hit so looks like we may be doing some gigs in the heart of blues country.
Saturday we went to the Beale Street Music Festival where we saw 5 stages full of too many big names and fantastic bands to mention. About 10pm the tornado sirens went off and the cops called the shows and evacuated the park. Interesting sight to see 100,000 people running for their lives. Several hundred of us took shelter in a parking garage until we decided enough was enough and we got a cab back to the hotel.
The weekend was capped by our Sunday service attendance at Rev. Al Green’s Full Gospel Tabernacle. That was a wonderful experience. The guy had some huge hits in the 70′s so you know he can sing but, man can he preach!
My head is still ringing from listened to my loud pipes all the way home but we are safe and ready to PLAY THE BLUES.
